What it looks like in practice

What happens when Huntress finds an attack overnight?

Instead of listing features, here is the actual workflow.

  1. 1

    The platform spots an anomaly

    The agent, Microsoft Defender, or another connected source reports suspicious behaviour.

  2. 2

    The SOC checks whether it is malicious

    Huntress analysts separate a genuine threat from normal activity and assess its severity.

  3. 3

    The threat is contained or remediation is prepared

    For eligible incidents, Huntress can isolate the endpoint and prepare Assisted Remediation steps.

  4. 4

    IT receives a readable report

    The report explains what happened, what has already been done, and what still needs attention.

Who performs manual work? MAGNATEH when covered by an IT support agreement; otherwise the customer's internal or external IT provider.

A tool or managed protection?

More signals help. People who understand them make the difference.

Huntress Managed EDR, ITDR, and SIEM can materially strengthen technical and operational risk controls under the GDPR, NIS2, and applicable national legislation. Compliance also requires organisational processes, backups, access management, and incident readiness.

No acronym soup

Short questions. Concrete answers.

Huntress or traditional antivirus?

Antivirus tries to stop a malicious file or behaviour on one endpoint. Huntress Managed EDR makes that preventive layer more useful by adding wider visibility and people who actually investigate the incident.

On supported Windows systems, Huntress manages the built-in Microsoft Defender Antivirus and receives its detections. The Huntress agent also monitors running processes, persistence mechanisms, and other signs of attacker activity. Its 24/7 SOC investigates suspicious signals and can isolate an endpoint, prepare remediation, and send clear next steps to IT.

Does Huntress replace ESET, Panda, or another traditional antivirus?

Yes. On supported Windows systems, Huntress Managed EDR with managed Microsoft Defender fully takes over the role of a traditional antivirus package and adds managed detection and response.

The meaningful comparison starts with EDR or XDR products that include a managed team. The key difference is not only software capability, but who reviews alerts, confirms an attack, and prepares the response.

Does Huntress remediate the incident?

In many incidents, Huntress contains or removes the attack or infection and prepares remediation before the IT administrator even learns that an incident occurred.

Defender may block a malicious file, Huntress may isolate the affected endpoint, the SOC investigates the activity, and Assisted Remediation performs supported steps. Complex incidents, stolen credentials, or compromise across several systems can still require manual work by IT or a specialist incident-response team.

Does Huntress work without Microsoft 365?

Yes. Managed EDR can protect supported workstations and servers in an on-premises Active Directory environment or where email runs on an internal Exchange server or another provider.

Microsoft 365 is not required for endpoint protection, but it enables additional Managed ITDR capabilities for cloud identities, sign-ins, and configuration changes.

Is Managed EDR licensed per computer or per user?

Managed EDR is licensed per installed endpoint or agent—on a workstation or server.

The agent price is the same regardless of how many users share the device. Other modules use different units: ITDR per user or identity, SAT per learner, and SIEM per data source.

What does an organisation need for NIS2 compliance?

Not one product, but a demonstrable system for managing cyber risk.

  • clear responsibilities and an incident-response process;
  • access management, MFA, and least privilege;
  • threat detection and relevant event logging;
  • backups and regularly tested recovery;
  • vulnerability, patch, and supplier management;
  • staff training and regular effectiveness reviews.

Huntress can provide substantial coverage for detection, investigation, and parts of response, but it does not replace organisational and other technical controls.

For smaller IT providers and administrators
